WEA Music Group

Danish composer Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) coined my favourite description of music:

“Music is life, and, as such, is inextinguishable.”

The new WEA Music Group courses, to be held at the Unitarian Chapel in Kendal, will explore the implications of this statement, challenging currently held views on Classical Music as we explore music’s spiritual origins and its infinite capacity to share our love, our empathy and above all, our inborn connectionUntitled to something greater than ourselves.

Come along on out taster day, 8 December, 1:00 -4:00 pm, in which we will look at concert music of Howard Blake, composer of The Snowman. Course Code: C3842626. To enrol, visit www.wea.org.uk or telephone 0300 303 3464 with course code.

Following this is our new long course, The Romantic Piano Concerto Part 1: 1791-1841, which takes the story of Romantic piano music from late Mozart to Schumann’s Concerto in A minor. This begins on 21 January, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm and runs for 5 weeks. Course code: C3842628. To enrol, visit www.wea.org.uk or telephone 0300 303 3464 with course code.

WEA Art Group

“I feel that there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people”

These words of Vincent van Gogh lie at the heart of the new WEA Art Group, based at the Unitarian Chapel in Kendal. To be creative we have to trust in ourselves and have faith in the creative process. Anyone wanting to be an artist or improve their creative identity will enjoy the course Paint A Christmas Angel, where we will use the angel as a muse to lead us on an artistic journey into Paintbox Fun. We will follow what Vincent van Gogh said when he declared:

“I dream my painting and then I paint my dream.”

Come along on our taster day, 1 December, 1:00 -4:00 pm, Paint a Christmas Angel. Course code: C3842625. To enrol, visit www.wea.org.uk  or telephone 0300 303 3464 with course code.

Our long course, Paintbox Fun starts on 21 January, 1:00 -4:00 pm and runs for 5 weeks. Course code: C3842627. To enrol, visit www.wea.org.uk or telephone 0300 303 3464 with course code.
